Hi! My name is Delaney and I’m here at Lehner Designs as an Interior Design Intern. I’m currently a senior at Purdue Indianapolis in the Interior Architecture program. This year I’m part of the Student Design Organization as the Risk Manager and it gave me the opportunity to be involved and make new connections.
I would love to share a few insights about a topic that I find interesting. Interior Design Trends in 2026. How exciting!
The year 2026 marks the year of change and comebacks in the world of interiors where they are defined by depth, dimension, authenticity, and sensory connection. After years of trend-driven, digital overload, and uncertainty, designers are designing homes that reflect themselves and not following everyone else. Designers around the world are embracing the interior experience through layered, warm earthy palettes, and materials with a story. In 2026 the top defining movements that I found interesting are:
- Natural and tactile materials that take center stage
- Dark and moody palettes
- Craftsmanship with custom details and antiques
Today interiors being designed are calmer, cozier, and user-driven that prioritizes the quality and durability over other trends and depth and richness over minimalism. Now it’s time to see the interior design trends that are coming back in 2026.
If you would like to see the other trends in 2026 including the ones I talk about here is the information!

NATURAL, TACTILE MATERIALS TAKE CENTER STAGE

One major shift in 2026 is natural materials are becoming the foundation rather than being accents and finishing touches. This consists of the natural wood variation plaster, stone, unlacquered metals, and textiles with real texture. Designers are emphasizing the authenticity, texture, and material that will age beautifully. These materials show up in:
- Handmade tiles
- Unlacquered metals
- Warm woods
It’s less about the aesthetics and more about the feeling they want to create for each space.
DARK, MOODY SPACES ARE STILL IN
Dark and moody interiors remain strong in 2026, but with more intention. Designers describe this trend as “a refuge from overstimulation.” Some ways they bring this element into a home are:
- Dark woods
- Softened blacks
- Charcoals
- Deep earth tones
Combine wood with brass, bronze, or matte black metals while keeping the undertones consistent. Natural tones can be brought in with:
- Pillows
- Rugs
- Artwork
- Pottery
The different hues add comfort and sophistication while keeping things light and airy. They are shaping entire spaces and rooms and are no longer just feature moments. Pairing dark and moody tones with natural textures and warm lighting selections make the space feel inviting rather than heavy.
CRAFTSMANSHIP, CUSTOM DETAILS, AND ANTIQUES
Homes are supposed to tell a story about craftsmanship, quality, and timelessness. When it comes to craftsmanship, custom detailing, and antiques the goal is to prioritize longevity and quality over immediate impact. When choosing materials blend in different natural materials:
- Linen
- Jute
- Stone
- Rattan
You can expect a rise in sustainability when it comes to furniture, antiques, and custom detailing. Craftsmanship will have a stronger emphasis consisting of custom millwork and integrated furniture. Bringing in the traditional details that are paired with antiques and mean something to you use:
- Crown moldings
- Raised panel doors
- Unlacquered brass
- Reclaimed wood or local
A shift toward fewer things is better when considering antiques. One hand-made piece can elevate the entire space and make it feel collected. Well-made antiques, patterned fabrics, and hand-crafted pieces should be invested in since they add depth and narrative.

WORKING TOGETHER
Natural and tactile materials warm and softens dark and moody homes, preventing it from feeling too cold. Dark and moody palettes highlight the craftsmanship, texture, and the hand-made details. Craftsmanship with custom details and antiques anchor the tactile in a home with a story and character behind it. The focus of earthy tones and neutrals, emphasize of layering textures, connection to nature, use of natural materials, and staying organic and minimalistic your design becomes calmer, cozier, and user driven. All these trends create a space that is warm, expressive, and deeply human. The year 2026 is where these trends value purpose over impression, useability over form, and spaces that feel as good to live in as they look.

The year 2026 celebrates the luxury, warmth, and interiors that feel as good as they look. Natural and tactile materials, dark and moody palettes, and craftsmanship with custom details and antiques trends reflect the shared passion for making a space feel authentic, comfortable, and expressive. These designed homes have character, a story, layered, and very grounded which makes the home feel connected to the people living in it. Designers agree that the use of excessive white is sterile and needs to be taken out since you want to create a home that is beautiful, has history, and represents you.
